Good morning, Morgantown. Here's your local news at a glance for Saturday, the 21st of June.

COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On June 19, WVU students joined flood recovery efforts in Wheeling, Fairmont, and Marion County by cleaning up debris and delivering donations after last weekend’s flash flooding destroyed homes and claimed at least eight lives. • Dr. Jon Wietholter was named chair of the Department of Clinical Pharmacy at WVU School of Pharmacy on June 19 after serving as interim since July 2024—he joined the school in 2008 and is a board-certified pharmacist known for teaching, clinical work and humanitarian aid.  West Virginia University
  • The WVU Child Learning Center, operated by Bright Horizons, offers early education and flexible care for children—including drop-in summer care—with reduced rates for WVU employees and students. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The proposed One Big Beautiful Bill Act passed by a narrow House vote may extend 2017 tax cuts while cutting Medicaid benefits for nearly 65,000 West Virginians—experts warn these changes could strain health coverage and economic stability. State leaders remain divided on whether the bill will spur business investment or harm services for low-income families.  WDTV
