ECONOMY NEWS

  • Solar Holler urges residents to install solar panels before the 30 percent federal clean energy tax credit ends Dec. 31, with projects planned for homes, nonprofits, and businesses from Flatwoods to Monongalia County (reportedly boosting local economy and job growth).  MetroNews

EDUCATION NEWS

  • WVU released its first Hazing Transparency Report, showing no hazing violations from July 1 to Dec. 23, and detailing policies and prevention programs. The report is available online and officials advise anyone with concerns to contact WVU Police.  WDTV
  • West Virginia University reported zero hazing violations among student organizations during the final six months of 2025, according to its first (transparency) report.  WV News
  • WVU has modified its holiday calendar by providing an extra 7.5 floating holiday hours for leave-eligible employees following Gov. Morrisey’s Dec. 29 proclamation — declaring Jan. 2 as a holiday. Employees can request the hours via Applaud from Jan. 5 until June 30 with classes resuming Jan. 12.  WVU Today

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The West Virginia DMV is celebrating designated drivers today and urging residents to plan ahead with ridesharing if they plan to drink. Officials say that choosing a sober driver can reduce the risk of alcohol-related accidents on busy roads.  WDTV
  • SNAP users will not be allowed to buy certain sugary drinks, including soda, starting Jan. 1 as Gov. Morrisey’s policy aims to boost nutrition & reduce health risks, affecting nearly 300,000 beneficiaries.  West Virginia Public Broadcasting

HEALTH NEWS

  • West Virginia secured $199 million from the Rural Health Transformation Program to support rural health care before planned Medicaid cuts. Gov. Morrisey says the funding will improve access and strengthen services — even as hospitals face more than $1 billion in Medicaid funding losses in the future.  MetroNews
  • West Virginia Dept. of Health is calling on healthcare leaders to join its Rural Health Transformation Program after receiving nearly $200 million to modernize rural care; officials say many interested candidates, including physicians and nurses, have already reached out + the program will emphasize connected care, recruitment, and tech innovation.  West Virginia Public Broadcasting

SPORTS NEWS

  • WVU signee safety and versatile offensive player Matt Sieg (a top recruit) was named one of seven finalists for the National High School Player of the Year Award by the Maxwell Football Club. The award winner will be revealed on Saturday, March 14 in Atlanta.  The Dominion Post
  • University High School’s Jimmy Gregg was named a 2025 Rivals First-Team All-American on Dec. 24, making him only the second from the state to earn national honors since Randy Moss in 1995. He will enroll early at Syracuse for spring football.  The Dominion Post
