- ➤ Tygart Valley United Way received a $30,000 gift from Christ Episcopal Church of Fairmont to support its 2025 fundraising campaign. Church leaders said the donation is expected to inspire others to help reach the $605,000 goal. WDTV

- ➤ Mountain Stage returns with a Five Favorites edition featuring classic live sets from 2005 chosen by Executive Producer Adam Harris, with The Del McCoury Band performing its popular tune 'All Aboard.' Tune in today on an affiliate station to listen live. West Virginia Public Broadcasting
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ President Michael T. Benson visited Nicholas County on Dec. 18 to welcome incoming student Evan Prendergast from Summersville who will start classes in the John Chambers College of Business and Economics this fall. West Virginia University
- ➤ Four WVU faculty were named 2026 Cloud Analytics Faculty Fellows to integrate NOAA climate data into courses, giving students cloud-based, real-world learning. Housed in the Provost's office + backed by the West Virginia High Technology Foundation, the program will equip students with critical analytical skills. West Virginia University
- ➤ Madison Glover from WVU Davis College of Agriculture graduated a semester early in December and now plans to apply for vet school in fall 2026; her work in research (guided by her mentors) and campus leadership built a strong foundation for her future career. WVU Today
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The West Virginia Housing Development Fund and FHLBank Pittsburgh awarded $1.625 million to 24 local projects to address homelessness. The funds will support efforts to expand shelter and services in the region. WV News
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ The Aquatic Therapy Clinic is offering free, one-on-one aquatic therapy sessions for adults and children with pain or mobility issues at the Student Rec Center pool on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays between noon and 4 p.m. Sessions last 30 to 60 minutes on a first-come, first-served basis. SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ West Virginia football signed 49 high school and junior college players from 25 states during the early signing period (coach Rich Rodriguez noted the class includes top recruits from Pennsylvania and the South) to strengthen the team. The Dominion Post
- ➤ The Mountaineers learned from a challenging nonconference schedule that saw a game with just five players and a close loss in the Bahamas. They will host Houston at 2 p.m. Sunday in Big 12 play & aim to build on these experiences. The Dominion Post
- ➤ Maddox Twigg led the Mohigans to their first state championship in 20 years and earned the House Award for his 1,084 total yards and 19 touchdowns over four postseason games. MetroNews
- ➤ Spring Mills senior Xavier Anderson signed with WVU during the first day of the signing period and will join as a tight end while helping defend his school's state basketball title; he chose WVU after considering Cincinnati and valuing the chance to stay close to family + his brother Max. - ➤ MHS girls basketball dominated Wheeling Park 75–26 last night as junior Brenna Nelson & junior Carper Messerly led the team to a 4–0 start with a relentless defensive effort that sets the tone for the season. The Dominion Post
- ➤ Morgantown High is hosting the Hope Gas Holiday Classic this weekend at the Rowdie Center, where four teams including University and Shady Spring and local squads Mohigans and St. John’s Catholic Prep will compete Friday at 6:00 p.m. and Saturday afternoon while honoring past state champions from 2016 and 2025.
