- ➤ United Way of Monongalia and Preston Counties is launching a campaign to boost local health, education and financial stability, and faculty and staff are asked to donate from Dec. 8 until Dec. 19 + join the effort for positive change. West Virginia University
- ➤ WVU Extension celebrated the West Virginia Agritourism Initiative on Dec. 8 at Evansdale Crossing, 4th Floor, launching the Naturally, West Virginia network and website from 12:30-3 p.m. The event brought together local farms, vineyards and markets with community members as they enjoyed farm-to-finger foods and networking. - ➤ Clay Club will host a pottery sale on Friday, Dec. 12 at the Canady Creative Arts Center lobby, offering mugs, vases and unique holiday gifts from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. West Virginia University
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Researchers at WVU must meet several deadlines before the new IRB module launches in February. They need to finish full board renewals by Dec. 17, close protocols by Dec. 19, review studies and save content by Jan. 5, and confirm WRAP access by Jan. 12. West Virginia University
- ➤ WVU's Office of Campus and Community Life is celebrating Commuter and Nontraditional Student Appreciation Week from Dec. 8-12 with faculty nominating students for a $100 gift card and offering snacks and giveaways in the Commuter Lounge at Elizabeth Moore Hall (Room G11). - ➤ The IRS announced increased limits for Supplemental Retirement Accounts for 2026, making both 403(b) and 457(b) options available to WVU employees. Employees must complete the electronic Salary Reduction Agreement (by Friday, Dec. 12) for changes to take effect on Jan. 9. West Virginia University
- ➤ The state has brought in roughly $130 million over its budget in five months thanks to strong personal income and consumer sales taxes. Officials explained that a lower car rebate return (only $140 million from the $200 million expected) and changes in severance and tobacco taxes signal evolving revenue trends. - ➤ The Morgantown Fire Department introduced Chance (a canine who completed a six-week Arson Detection Program and graduated on Nov. 7) and his partner Deputy Fire Marshal Billy Lyons Monday to boost fire investigation efforts locally. WDTV
- ➤ WVU Parking Management now offers vanity plates to aid the License Plate Recognition system. Plates cost $20 or are free with a donation of 10 food items (accepted weekdays from 8:15 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. at Mountaineer Station until Wed, Dec. 10), with full enforcement resuming Jan. 1. - ➤ Morgantown Mohigans beat Martinsburg (28-21) in the WVSSAC Class AAAA State Championship game on Saturday in Charleston. Head Coach Sean Biser led his team after the hard-fought victory. The Dominion Post
- ➤ Jordan Harrison surpassed 1,000 career points with a 3-point shot with 4:49 left in the third quarter during WVU’s 109 to 40 win at the Hope Coliseum on Monday. Coach Mark Kellogg (celebrating his 50th birthday) said her milestone now places her in an exclusive club. The Dominion Post
