  • Animal Friends of North Central West Virginia on Brewer Road got a $50K donation from Your Community Foundation on Thursday to fund upgrades that will double the shelter's size and add modern features for nearly 50 pets (the donation brings the shelter closer to its $2 million goal).  WDTV

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Nothing Bundt Cakes will soon open at University Town Centre in Morgantown, as Granville officials announced on Dec. 3 (via Facebook); the precise opening date is still pending.  WDTV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The MFD introduced Chance, a 16-month-old Labrador retriever trained for accelerant detection in Morgantown this week. The department committed to a five-year program with Chance to aid in fire investigations & evidence collection.  The Dominion Post

HEALTH NEWS

  • WVU Medicine Jackson General Hospital announced the Building Hope project with a ($2.5 million gift) that lets it start building a new cancer center in Ripley. The center is expected to offer infusion and chemo services in 12 to 18 months to patients from counties across the region.  MetroNews

SPORTS NEWS

  • WVU men's basketball faces Wake Forest today at 6 p.m. in the Charleston Coliseum. Coach Ross Hodge said the 10 deep lineup will test the team as WVU returns to Charleston for the first time since 2016.  The Dominion Post
  • WVU flipped two top recruits from Pennsylvania on National Signing Day in Morgantown — four-star safety Matt Sieg and offensive lineman Kevin Brown shifted from Penn State after a last-minute recruiting push by coach Rich Rodriguez's staff.  The Dominion Post
  • Morgantown defeated the Bulldogs 28-21 in the Class AAAA state championship game at UC Stadium (Laidley Field) Friday after two quick first-half touchdowns fueled a comeback that held off a late run, with Coach Sean Biser praising the team’s strong effort in ending the Bulldogs' 11-game title streak.  MetroNews
  • A new episode of 'Big 12: Uncovered' offered a behind-the-scenes look at the Mountaineers — featuring head coach Rich Rodriguez after a win over Colorado — that aired Friday, Dec. 05 on HBO Max.  West Virginia University
