- ➤ Mildred Fizer, the first female state 4-H leader, passed on Nov. 28 at 104 and left a lasting legacy in Morgantown through expanded youth programming; visitation was held at McCulla Funeral Home on Dec. 4 (burial is scheduled later). West Virginia University
- ➤ Mon County Sheriff’s Office partners with the Mon County Canine Adoption Center for the annual Stuff Their Stockings drive to collect new, unopened items for adoptable pets. Donations are accepted Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the main shelter or sent to 106 Lockside Road, Morgantown. WDTV

- ➤ On Dec. 4, hundreds gathered on campus to see 8,000 lights sparkle on Woodburn Hall for the first time in over a decade, as WVU President Michael T. Benson led the ceremony with support from sponsors (Huntington National Bank and Northeast Natural Energy). West Virginia University
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Senator Jim Justice and students from the Nicholas County Career and Technical Center unveiled an Almost Heaven Swing in his Washington D.C. office today as part of his initiative to boost West Virginia tourism (which began in 2022 with nine swings and now spans nearly 50 locations statewide). - ➤ West Virginia State Parks announced that the main overlook at Coopers Rock will be closed for repairs on its aging pedestrian bridge; work is expected to finish in July 2026 to ensure visitor safety. WDTV
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ MCHD is more than halfway through its journey to earn accreditation from the Public Health Accreditation Board after submitting its application in May and has until May 20 to complete the documentation (officials expect full accreditation early in 2027). The Dominion Post

- ➤ The top ranked Morgantown Mohigans will face third seeded Martinsburg for the state championship today at Laidley Field in Charleston. The team, known for a strong defense, aims to win its first title in 20 years. The Dominion Post
- ➤ The Clay-Battelle High School football team will play in its first Class A state championship game against Wheeling Central on Friday at 7:00 p.m. at University of Charleston Stadium, riding a 12-game win streak and a powerful ground game. The Dominion Post
