- ➤ WVU biologists are studying how two types of fungi work with tree roots and soil germs to help trees take in nutrients and store carbon. The research uses lab tests, greenhouse growth, and field sampling at Fernow Experimental Forest — and it is funded by a $1.1 million NSF grant that involves students and local fifth graders. - ➤ West Virginia collected $443 million in November, which was $29 million more than expected as personal income and sales taxes rose by 12 percent and 11 percent from last November.
