  • Denzil Fay Eddy, 89, died November 26 in Daybrook and is remembered for his service in the Army and his long career in construction that helped build his community. Family and friends are gathering at McCulla Funeral Home (770 Fairmont Road, Westover) from 4 to 7 p.m. today with the funeral service set for 11 a.m. on November 29.  The Dominion Post
  • Dani DeVito, president of the Marion County Chamber of Commerce, is urging local residents to shop at small businesses on Small Business Saturday on November 29th—Fairmont will host ribbon-cutings and a Christmas tree lighting while Morgantown will feature retail specials with appearances by Santa and Mrs. Claus. The chamber hopes to bolster local shops with a day of festive events that spotlight unique, neighborhood-operated stores.  The Dominion Post

  • Retailers at Huntington Mall and Meadowbrook Mall are preparing for Black Friday and Christmas by opening at 6 a.m. on Friday + managers report steady crowds throughout the month and expect over 100,000 shoppers this season.  MetroNews

HEALTH NEWS

  • Dr. Brian Huggins, Mon County Health Officer, said the department is preparing to help hospital partners use the anticipated $500 million federal funding to improve rural health care and chronic disease prevention as part of the Rural Health Transformation Program. He added the department will serve as the chief health strategist by collecting local health data — a move expected to guide future prevention efforts.  The Dominion Post
