COMMUNITY NEWS

  • WVU Parking Management will offer citation relief from Dec. 1-10 in exchange for donating 10 non-perishable food items at Mountaineer Station from 8:15 a.m. to 4:15 p.m.—participants may have one unpaid parking citation up to $20 removed and support The Rack: WVU Student Food Pantry. Donations are welcomed even if no citation exists.  West Virginia University
  • One Hope Covenant Church will host its annual ‘Come As You Are’ Thanksgiving meal on Thanksgiving Day to provide a free dinner for local residents—aiming to serve anyone in need. The church has planned this event as part of its yearly community outreach.  WDTV

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Toyota announced plans to invest up to $10 billion in its U.S. plants to expand hybrid car production, with its Buffalo plant in West Virginia + adding 80 jobs and its Georgetown plant in Kentucky + adding 82 jobs; both facilities will start production in 2027.  WDTV

CULTURE NEWS

  • West Virginia University will host the Woodburn Hall Lighting Ceremony on Dec. 2 at 6 p.m. on the Downtown campus—students, faculty, staff, alumni and community members will gather to enjoy free parking starting at 5 p.m. and holiday treats provided by sponsors.  WVU Today

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Doctoral student Larisa Mount represented WVU on Jeopardy! earlier this month and finished in second place. Mount said the support from Morgantown helped her gain confidence—she plans to use that lesson in her teaching.  The Daily Athenaeum
  • The Office of Innovation and Commercialization launched the Proof-to-Patent program on November 18th to give University inventors up to $1,000 for verifying key technology claims. The program uses Shared Research Facilities, Health Sciences Center Core Facilities and the WISER Analytical Lab to support the testing process.  West Virginia University
  • Sixth graders at Mountaineer Middle School in Morgantown participated in a STEM challenge led by the WVU President + EQT Foundation where they learned how ecology, coding and energy infrastructure connect. The event was held Tuesday morning and gave students a hands-on look at how these fields work together.  WV News
  • WVU Extension Energy Express launched a new after-school reading club this fall at Mylan Park Elementary School in partnership with the Center for Community Engagement’s Purpose to Action and a Dollar General Literacy grant. WVU student mentors lead small-group sessions where first- through third-grade children enjoy hands-on reading, art, and drama activities—each child receives take-home books over a 12-week session and the club will continue in the spring.  West Virginia University

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The West Virginia Division of Natural Resources is calling for original wildlife paintings for the 2027 Wildlife Calendar. Artists have until February 12 to submit original color paintings of native wildlife—selected works will earn a $200 prize and the cover artist an extra $500.  WDTV
  • Senator Capito nominated 30 West Virginia high school seniors from 12 counties for the U.S. Military Academy, Naval Academy, Air Force Academy, and Merchant Marine Academy—nominations that will launch their military careers following graduation.  WV News
  • Governor Patrick Morrisey and First Lady Denise Morrisey have invited West Virginians to submit photos of loved ones who served for the annual Honor Trees displayed at the State Capitol outside the Governor’s Reception Room during the Christmas season. Photos must be received by December 1 (originals will not be returned) to ensure they are part of the tribute.  WDTV

SPORTS NEWS

  • Clay-Battelle sophomore Caleb Hall surpassed 1,000 rushing yards by running for 165 yards on 22 carries with a touchdown during a 44-8 Class A playoff win against Ritchie County last weekend. His season total reached 1,086 yards and he becomes the first Cee-Bee to hit this mark since 2022—he now helps his team prepare for the upcoming quarterfinal game.  The Dominion Post
