- ➤ The Monongalia County Fair Board announced that Core Natural Resources donated over 65 acres to let the fair grow programs like agricultural education, youth development, and community events. The new property is five minutes from the intersection of Chaplin Hill Rd, Monongahela Blvd, and Blue Horizon Dr — officials said details will be shared as planning continues — as leaders work on future developments. - ➤ WVU is asking students, alumni, employers, faculty and staff to share ideas to improve its general education curriculum. The brief survey takes less than 10 minutes—follow-up discussions will be scheduled in Spring 2026 to guide future changes. West Virginia University
- ➤ The Office of Undergraduate Research invites faculty, staff, and current and former undergraduate researchers to nominate mentors for the Travis Stimeling Awards for Mentoring Undergraduates in Research—nominations close Jan. 18. West Virginia University
- ➤ The REACH Student Success Center and First-Generation Program are marking FirstGen Celebration Week from Nov. 10-14 by inviting the WVU community to join social activities including a mix and mingle, a FirstGen in Business panel and a lunch and learn session. - ➤ A WVU psychology study led by Professor Amy Gentzler found that teens in Appalachian families tend to mirror their parents’ self-control in areas like health, school, money and work after a six-month survey of 213 families—highlighting that home habits can shape better choices. The survey was carried out during the COVID-19 pandemic when many parents worked at home and teens learned online. WVU Today
