ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Mine rescue teams are still searching for a coal miner at the Rolling Thunder Mine near Drennen, which flooded at about 1 p.m. Saturday—all other miners are accounted for.  MetroNews

EDUCATION NEWS

  • West Virginia University named five seniors as the 2025 Mountaineers of Distinction at halftime during the game against Colorado on November 8—recognizing their academic excellence and community service. They were selected from over 70 recommended students based on their strong academics and volunteer efforts.  WVU Today
  • WVU's 50-year-old Personal Rapid Transit continues to serve 12,000 riders daily when classes are in session—its 98.5% reliability and recent upgrades keep the system effective despite its age.  The Dominion Post

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Nov. 7, WVU’s Board of Governors approved the West Tower Project at Milan Puskar Stadium and a Premium Seating Project for Hope Coliseum proposed by Athletics Director Wren Baker—efforts that aim to boost revenue and enhance the game-day experience by 2028. They also approved a $4.9M renovation to PSC’s Science Hall lab and new academic programs—moves intended to improve campus facilities while addressing long-standing infrastructure needs.  The Daily Athenaeum

SPORTS NEWS

  • On Friday, Clay-Battelle beat Magnolia 30-0 in a cool, drizzly game that gave the team its highest ranking ever as the No. 3 seed in Class A. The team, now 9-1, will host a playoff game next week once final seeding is complete.  The Dominion Post
  • On Saturday, West Virginia won its second game in a row by beating Colorado 29—22, keeping its bowl hopes alive as it prepares to face Arizona State in Tempe. Freshman quarterback Scotty Fox Jr. threw for 202 yards and a touchdown while key plays like a blocked punt helped the team win.  The Dominion Post
  • In a recent game, WVU put pass rusher Curtis Jones Jr. into short-yardage plays and he scored two touchdowns (he helped fill in after running backs were injured) to boost the team's lead, and coach Rich Rodriguez said he would use Jones more when needed.  The Dominion Post
