- ➤ AEP posted $972 million in profits in the third quarter, up from $960 million a year ago, while its West Virginia unit did not get a 14% rate increase. The company announced a $72 billion five‑year capital plan to add 28 gigawatts of power, and Kentucky Power will seek a 15% rate increase as it prepares for growth in states like Ohio, Indiana, Oklahoma and Texas. - ➤ Data from Appalachian Power showed that Unit 2 at the John Amos power plant failed for 28 hours on Jan. 21 and 22 during record cold weather and then again for more than 19 days in February. - ➤ Patrick Miller, a philosophy teacher at Duquesne University, was named head of the WVU Washington Center for Civics, Culture and Statesmanship when Gov. Patrick Morrisey pledged 1.1 million dollars for food banks and launched a statewide donation drive to match up to 13 million dollars in private donations—more than a quarter million residents may see their November SNAP benefits cut if the shutdown continues. - ➤ A $28 million gift from philanthropist Thomas Golisano is transforming WVU Medicine Children’s—now renamed WVU Medicine Golisano Children’s—to fill critical gaps in pediatric and mental health care, allowing faster access to services for local children.
