- ➤ The Office of Compliance and Prevention Education and UPD are sponsoring a hands-on self-defense session on Nov. 5 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Evansdale Residential Complex Blue and Gold Rooms—learners will practice situational awareness and defense skills. West Virginia University

- ➤ WVU Child Learning Center, operated by Bright Horizons and located near Evansdale campus, offers flexible early education programs that help children become curious and confident—eligible WVU employees, students, and military personnel receive discounted rates. - ➤ The Honors College is accepting applications from full-time Morgantown Campus faculty to join its 2026-27 Faculty Fellows program where selected fellows will teach one or two sections with enhanced teaching practices. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Officials from the Morgantown Utility Board announced a deferred payment program that suspends water, sewer and stormwater fees for those affected by the government shutdown. Once the shutdown ends, past due balances will be spread over six months—residents must apply in person with proof of impact. WDTV
- ➤ With a federal shutdown and SNAP delays, West Virginia 211 connects residents with food, housing, utilities and other essential supports—available 24/7 by phone, text, or online across all 55 counties. WDTV
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ West Virginia punter Oliver Straw has punted 40 times in seven games and is on track for his highest total this season. A columnist said WVU must plan for the future by testing young quarterbacks — Wilkins and Fox — and rebuilding the team after a 45-13 loss to UCF. The Dominion Post
- ➤ The newly renamed Hope Coliseum will host its first basketball action on Sunday as WVU’s men’s and women’s teams play exhibition games in Morgantown—men face Wheeling University at 4 p.m. on ESPN+ while the women take on Fairmont State at 6:30 p.m., and both coaches will answer early season questions about team changes.
