- ➤ IgniteWV 2026 invites West Virginia innovators to compete for up to $100,000 in cash prizes and mentorship designed to help transform ideas into real-world impact—applications are open to anyone 18 and older with a new or pre-revenue business. - ➤ A potential SNAP freeze may delay benefits for over 277000 West Virginians as single mother Sara Jones, who relies on the aid to help feed her four children, warned of the impact amid the ongoing shutdown. The West Virginia Department of Human Services stated that benefits for November will be halted if the shutdown continues — prompting Governor Morrisey to send $1.1 million in emergency funds to support local food banks facing rising demand. - ➤ The West Virginia Division of Natural Resources announced the 4th annual Monster Trout Contest this fall — the event will run from October 20-27 in waterways including Buckhannon River — Tygart River, allowing anglers to catch pink-tagged monster trout and enter a prize drawing for a cabin stay or Bass Pro Shops package.
