- ➤ On Oct. 18, thousands of community members marched downtown for the 'No Kings' protest organized by Mountaineers Indivisible. Protesters gathered near Spruce Street Farmers Market and marched to the Ruby Amphitheater — where speakers criticized federal policies and the shutdown's effects — to call for better support of public services. - ➤ Jason Burns from the Morgantown History Museum will tell ghost and monster stories at the Monongalia Arts Center this Friday evening—tickets cost $20 to help pay for new exhibits—bringing local history to life. The Dominion Post
- ➤ The Art Museum of WVU will host Mystery at the Museum on Friday, Oct. 24 from 5 to 7 p.m.—a chance for community members to team up with friends and search for a missing art piece. West Virginia University
- ➤ Mountaineers will gather for WVU Homecoming from Oct. 24-26 to celebrate school pride, tradition and the state's industry roots in Morgantown. The parade will start Friday at 6 p.m. on High Street (with Chancellor Clay Marsh as grand marshal) and students can vote for Homecoming Royalty (from 9 a.m. today to 7 p.m. Wednesday) as events continue this weekend. - ➤ Faculty, staff, students, and community members will join a Zoom listening session on Oct. 22 (2-3 p.m.) to share input on the Eberly College dean search. The Eberly College Dean Search Committee is partnering with Greenwood Asher and Associates (the search firm) to vet and recruit candidates based on community feedback. West Virginia University
- ➤ WVU Information Technology Services reported an areawide outage on Monday — affecting eCampus, Qualtrics, Salesforce, Smartsheet, Zoom and the Atlassian tool suite — due to issues with Amazon Web Services; further updates will be provided. The Daily Athenaeum
- ➤ Staff Council Hidden Gems is featuring Adventure WV programs that offer faculty and staff outdoor activities such as a Zipline Canopy Tour at the University Research Forest near Coopers Rock and bike, kayak and paddle board rentals from Morgantown Adventure Outfitters on the rail trail at Hazel Ruby McQuain Park—participants can also use equipment from the Outdoor Rec Center and trip planning tools via Outdoors DIY. - ➤ West Virginia University will celebrate Homecoming Weekend with a parade on High Street at 6 p.m. Friday, October 24—Dr. Clay Marsh will serve as grand marshal while students can enjoy Mountaineer Friday festivities outside the Mountainlair from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. At the Coal Rush football game on Saturday at 6 p.m.—two students will be named Homecoming Royalty as additional events including basketball season openers, concerts, tailgates and a Trick-or-Trot 5K boost school pride. - ➤ The Allegheny-Erie Society of Toxicology's annual meeting will address regional environmental toxicants starting at 9:30 a.m. (Oct. 29) at the Erickson Alumni Center, featuring discussions on local and global toxicants, a talk on e-cigarette hazards by Sarah Commodore, networking, and student sessions with free registration for undergraduates and chaperones.
