EDUCATION NEWS

  • West Virginia school districts have expanded mental health services for students by introducing new programs to address emotional and behavioral needs. The initiatives will boost counseling and support to help students manage stress and social challenges.  WV News

HEALTH NEWS

  • Today, people wore pink and gathered at Mountaineer Field for the annual breast cancer walk in memory of Betty Puskar—whose donation established the Breast Care Center. Families received free t-shirts while participants walked around the stadium to honor survivors and their support networks.  WDTV
  • Hand, foot and mouth disease has made a comeback in West Virginia — state health officials are monitoring new cases closely.  WV News

  • Regional brackets for the WVSSAC soccer tournaments are set with single elimination contests scheduled October 20-30 — winners will advance to the state tournament at the Paul Cline Memorial Sports Complex in Beckley from November 5-8.  MetroNews
  • WVU men's basketball played a closed-door scrimmage against Maryland on Saturday—Honor Huff led with 32 points and ten 3-pointers while Treysen Eaglestaff scored 22 in a 95-73 win. Unofficial game details were shared on social media with no official word from either school.  The Dominion Post
