- ➤ Dave & Buster’s began construction last week on its new Morgantown sports bar and arcade at WestRidge near University Town Centre—its design features ample standalone parking for high patron capacity. The project, in planning for five years, will open in the fall. The Daily Athenaeum
- ➤ Last spring, Morgantown’s SABO Coffee Roasters opened as a specialty manufacturer founded by Sara Boltralik and Sebastian Sepúlveda Cartes to deliver fresh, high-quality arabica coffee. Local cafés now serve the coffee — including the versatile Casa Blend that can be brewed in many ways. Morgantown Magazine
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Career Services has introduced Big Interview, an online tool that gives WVU students training for interviews and resume building. Students log in with their WVU credentials to access mock interview practice, video lessons, and a resume builder—a platform that offers practice and feedback—to help them prepare for the job market. - ➤ Students will be able to earn up to five credits in a three-week Winter Intersession that will run fully online and asynchronously from December 22 through January 8—registration must be submitted by 4 p.m. December 18. The program will offer over 30 courses on topics such as AI in the workplace, Excel, global sustainability, Hollywood history, nutrition, and human rights in video games. West Virginia University
- ➤ Today, researchers from WVU and academic institutions statewide will gather at the Erickson Alumni Center for the Van Liere and West Virginia IDeA Research Conference that will continue through Oct 18 (featuring poster and oral presentations); President Michael T. Benson, Dr. Clay Marsh and Ming Lei will deliver opening remarks at 9 a.m. (as part of the opening session). West Virginia University

- ➤ West Virginia Gov. Patrick Morrisey and Diversified Energy announced Thursday a partnership to create the nation’s first financial assurance fund for retiring oil and gas wells—aiming to cover costs to decommission inactive wells. WV News
- ➤ Morgantown Utility Board will close the right turning lane of University Avenue at the intersection with Van Voorhis Road in the direction of Star City from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday until Oct. 24—crews are replacing a failing 15-inch storm line with an 18-inch line during these hours. HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ A self-care panel discussion for survivors of sexual assault, dating violence and domestic violence will be held on Oct. 23 from 6-7 p.m. in the Mountainlair Gluck Theatre to share trauma-informed wellness strategies— a candlelight vigil will follow at 7 p.m. in front of Woodburn Hall. - ➤ Since early last year, WVU Medicine’s Rockefeller Neuroscience Institute has offered free concussion care—VIP treatment—to domestic violence survivors who suffered head injuries. The program gives these patients quick access to the care they need. WV News
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ UCF relies on its strong pass defense—ranked 14th nationally—with corner Jayden Bellamy and linebacker Lewis Carter making key plays as the team readies itself for the upcoming matchup with WVU. However, UCF continues to struggle with its running game and must improve to better compete against tougher opponents. The Dominion Post
- ➤ After an Ohio defender's horse collar and facemask tackle ended running back Jahiem White’s season, redshirt freshman Diore Hubbard will lead the backfield against UCF. Coach Rich Rodriguez said injuries to White and Tye Edwards have given Hubbard and returning Cyncir Bowers time to show what they can do—an effort expected to boost WVU’s run-heavy offense. - ➤ In Wheeling, the 2025 WVSSAC state golf tournament ended on Wednesday as state champions were crowned—Hurricane, Shady Spring, Midland Trail and Charleston Catholic won team titles. University finished sixth in Class AAAA and Morgantown placed eighth, while UHS senior Owen Estel tied for eighth out of 37 golfers after shooting 15-over par in two rounds. The Dominion Post
