EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ WVU’s Talent and Culture team introduced a new appreciation toolkit — replacing Go Beyond — to give employees digital and printable cards for recognition, and staff should save their cards by Oct. 31 as the old system will retire then. West Virginia University
- ➤ WVU has recognized Pedestrian Safety Month by sharing campus safety tips for both pedestrians and drivers. University Police and Facilities Operations advise mountaineers to use sidewalks, face traffic when no sidewalk is available, and follow traffic signals—to help reduce risks during daily commutes. - ➤ WVU President Michael T. Benson delivered his first State of the University address on October 13, urging Mountaineers to work together for a bold future and aiming for membership in the Association of American Universities. He also announced plans to relight Woodburn Hall on Dec. 2+he will continue his Welcome Home Tour to gather input from community members statewide. West Virginia University
- ➤ WVU Libraries' Dean Search Committee will hold a listening session tomorrow from 3:30-4:30 p.m. via Zoom for faculty, staff, students, and community members to share ideas for the dean search—participants may also submit feedback and nominations through an online form. West Virginia University
- ➤ On Monday, WVU President Michael Benson delivered his first State of the University address at Fitzsimmons Event Hall (College of Law), outlining plans to use more than 860 survey responses to set short, medium and long-term goals including a holiday lighting party and a pilot program with five school districts for boosting enrollments. He said the university aims to increase regional enrollment and work over several years toward joining the Association of American Universities (AAU). The Dominion Post

- ➤ Student Health will hold flu shot clinics starting Oct.20 for faculty, staff, students, alumni and family members ages nine and older. No appointment is needed and participants must bring an insurance card — clinics will be held at the Mountainlair, Vandalia Lounge on Oct.20 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at Hope Coliseum on Oct.21 from 4 to 6 p.m., and at the Student Rec Center on Oct.22 and Oct.29 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., with the high-dose vaccine for those 65 not offered. - ➤ The 2025 WVSSAC state golf tournament begins today at the Jones Course at Oglebay Resort in Wheeling and will continue tomorrow with teams from MHS, UHS, Preston, and Clay-Battelle competing in rounds at a challenging course. Coaches say the event will test the skill of both young teams and individual qualifiers—adding excitement for the state championships. The Dominion Post
