COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Menards served as a drop site for a local food pantry on Oct. 10 to collect donated items for residents in need—local organizers say the location will help support families facing food insecurity.  WDTV
  • The Women’s Resource Center will host the Silent Witness exhibit from Oct. 13-17 at the Mountainlair, Vandalia Lounge to honor West Virginians who were murdered by domestic violence. The exhibit features life-sized silhouettes to raise awareness and connect viewers to local resources + urging action against the cycle of abuse.  West Virginia University

EDUCATION NEWS

  • WVU will host its first Mountain State Cyber Summit on Nov. 12 (10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.) at the Morgantown Marriott, with complimentary breakfast at 8:30 a.m. and lunch provided. Faculty, staff, students and qualifying professionals (free for the first 200 registrants) will join top experts to discuss ways to secure our digital future.  West Virginia University
  • Instructors will join a workshop hosted by the Teaching and Learning Center to learn how to use Microsoft Copilot Chat for coauthoring course materials like grading rubrics and narrative case studies. The sessions are scheduled for Oct. 16 from 10 to 11:15 a.m. and Oct. 17 from 1 to 2:15 p.m. in Evansdale Library Room G01 and for Oct. 21 from 9 to 10:15 a.m. in Stewart Hall Room B20.  West Virginia University
  • Regional Research Institute will host a Zoom workshop on Oct. 28 from 3:30 to 5 p.m. where Karen Kelsky will explain academic job search strategies and offer negotiation tips for both academic and non-academic markets—targeting graduate students and postdocs. The workshop is co-sponsored by NASA EPSCoR West Virginia.  West Virginia University
  • The WVU Hub will host FAFSA help events from Oct. 14—17 with tables open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at HSC Pylons on Oct. 14, Mountainlair on Oct. 15, and the Student Rec Center on Oct. 16—17 to help students with the 2026-27 FAFSA and secure financial aid before the priority deadline of March 1.  West Virginia University

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The West Virginia Governor’s Highway Safety Program and local law enforcement launched the 'Click It or Ticket' initiative on Friday to boost seat belt use and lower crash injuries through October. The campaign is part of a broader effort—Operation Crash Reduction—to promote safe driving.  WDTV
  • In November 2024, the Monongalia County 4-H Youth Camp Commission was launched to improve Camp Muffly, and earlier this week a nonprofit proposed a $50,000 contribution for a 50 by 100 feet mega pavilion—complete with enclosures for restrooms, a changing room, and storage. County officials welcomed the plan and said the county construction crew will build the structure, which may later generate rental income and help replace older camp cabins.  The Dominion Post

  • Ronald McDonald House Morgantown expanded its facility on Oct. 10 to offer more temporary housing for families with children undergoing treatment—officials said the expansion will improve support services moving forward.  WDTV

SPORTS NEWS

  • No. 9 Clay-Battelle defeated Richwood 47-6 on Friday as versatile Tre Huggins ran, threw, and caught a touchdown. The Cee-Bees will play a home game against Class AA River View next week—an important step toward playoff positioning.  The Dominion Post
