COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Two downtown institutions—Hotel Morgan and Massullo’s Cleaners—are celebrating 100 years this fall as each plans events to mark their storied role in Morgantown. Hotel Morgan, opened in 1925 with 152 guest rooms and historic design, and Massullo’s, continually run by the same family since its founding, highlight the town's rich legacy.  Morgantown Magazine

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Katarzyna Maniszewska—an expert in international relations—will present her talk 'Radicalization at High Speed: Terrorism and the Media Age of Artificial Intelligence' at 5 p.m. Oct. 15 in Chitwood Hall, Room 101. She will also speak on the WVU TransAtlantic Program dual master’s degree at 2:30 p.m. Oct. 16 at Civitas University.  West Virginia University

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Brandonville Solar submitted a 629-page application to the Public Service Commission for a 100 MW solar project planned on 1,154 acres between Glade Run and Big Sandy Creek near Brandonville. The project will cost over $174 million and is set to start construction on Dec. 2, 2026 with expected operation by Dec. 31, 2027—bringing local jobs and boosting economic output.  The Dominion Post

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Foster parents, caseworkers, attorneys and service providers now use the COMET system to share information and track updates in foster care, with Phase 1 having gone live on September 2 and Phase 2 set to add a mobile application.  West Virginia Public Broadcasting
  • The city of Westover has begun preliminary excavation for a $2,958,025 main lift station replacement along Dunkard Avenue—expected to finish in mid-January. Other work includes Holland Avenue paving, sidewalk lighting and handrail improvements, and approved trick-or-treat hours on Oct. 30—adding to ongoing efforts to update the city’s sewer and park systems.  The Dominion Post
  • Morgantown has countersued longtime employee Lamar Johnson, alleging that his August discrimination suit breached a 2020 confidential settlement by using its details, and the city seeks return of his settlement payout + legal fees.  The Dominion Post

  • Ahead of flu season, the West Virginia Department of Health recommends that West Virginians aged 6 months and older get a flu vaccine this fall — updated guidelines include protection against respiratory viruses.  WV News
  • WVU Medicine Children's was named the top children's hospital in West Virginia for the fifth consecutive year in US News and World Report rankings—its Pediatric Urology program rose to 28th nationally and Pediatric Behavioral Health earned a top 50 ranking for the first time.  WDTV

  • Greg Carey and Joe Brocato reviewed Week 6 results — they previewed the top Class AAA football matchups scheduled for Friday night.  MetroNews
  • West Virginia University removed slot wide receiver Oran “ManMan” Singleton Jr. from the roster during the bye week — his exit is likely to boost playing time for teammates like Rodney Gallagher and Jarod Bowie. Running back Jahiem White’s Instagram post, “Free 3,” added context to the move as the team adjusts its receiver rotation.  The Dominion Post
  • The WVU men's basketball team has added 2026 recruit Kingston Whitty from Christ School after an official visit in mid-September led coach Ross Hodge & his staff to offer him a scholarship; the 6 ft 2 guard, who averaged 18.7 points, 4.4 rebounds and 4.1 assists in Under Armor Association play, joins a 2026 class that includes Aliou Dioum and will soon host top prospect Miles Sandler on Oct. 24.  The Dominion Post
