CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Morgantown officials said the Ruby Summer Concert Series grew each year with free Friday concerts in June, July and August that drew larger crowds and more revenue. They said next year the series will add some ticketed events to help pay for costly acts and that the official lineup will be announced by April 1—Almost Queen, a Queen tribute band, is set to open the show. - ➤ Lawmakers in Morgantown began meetings today at 4 p.m.—they will review school aid formulas and proposals aimed at addressing declining enrollment and school consolidation. Del. Joe Statler said they plan to consider funding ideas from Tennessee while seeking to update public school codes. MetroNews

- ➤ State lawmakers begin monthly interim committee meetings today in Charleston and will hold over two dozen sessions through Tuesday, including two education sessions on Sunday. Lawmakers will also receive a finance update on Monday and Tuesday and a flood recovery briefing on Tuesday following recent flash floods—additional sessions are planned next month at Pipestem Resort State Park with another round in December. - ➤ Governor Patrick Morrisey addressed concerns over a potential government shutdown and outlined steps to keep state operations safe; he said state agencies had prepared contingency plans if funding talks stalled + officials expect further updates soon. WDTV
