BUSINESS NEWS

  • White Oaks 1838 opened a new wedding venue in Morgantown — the facility offers couples a modern space for wedding ceremonies and receptions that will host its first event soon.  WDTV
  • Construction began this week at WestRidge Business and Retail Park for the new Dave and Buster’s which will open next fall—this project is one of several developments that include a new Panera Bread and a First United Bank and Trust branch under construction. WestRidge President Ryan Lynch said the project follows years of planning and will boost local retail and entertainment options.  The Dominion Post

CULTURE NEWS

  • At Taste of Morgantown 2025, local eateries Monarca Taqueria and WVU Hospitality Group won awards for creative dishes like smoky pork belly and sweet rolls laced with apple butter—showcasing the event's celebration of local culinary skill. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Morgantown City Councilor Mark Downs and other officials expressed frustration during a recent session after a report by director Rickie Yeager showed the city faces a critical shortage of affordable housing, with over 1,100 people on the waiting list for Section 8 vouchers and a need for more low-income units. He urged action by suggesting community listening sessions and streamlined legislation on accessory dwelling units—while Mayor Danielle Trumble noted that the planning commission has been ready to push for zoning changes to help address the housing challenges.  The Dominion Post
  • From Monday October 6 through Wednesday October 8, crews will work on Tom’s Run — Goshen Road bridges on I-79 in Monongalia County from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. nightly, with rolling roadblocks and law enforcement directing traffic to manage expected delays.  WDTV
  • Governor Patrick Morrisey announced today that West Virginia has received a signed donor agreement from the National Park Service to fully reopen its national parks amid a federal government shutdown — making the state the first in the nation to do so. New River Gorge National Park and Preserve and Harpers Ferry National Historical Park will return to full operations in the next few days.  WDTV

SPORTS NEWS

  • The West Virginia University wrestling team announced its 2025—26 schedule including nonconference duals, Big 12 matchups, and national tournaments. The season will open on November 2.  WV News
  • Jasper Floyd starts the season as the point guard for West Virginia’s rebuilt basketball team under first-year coach Ross Hodge—he and the team, featuring many new players with little Power Five experience, face steep odds while working together to pursue a Big 12 championship.   • Senior Paige Brink reached 1,000 career kills as MHS swept rival University with a 3—0 win on Thursday night; she made the milestone with a strong hit in the second set while her coach praised her leadership and skill. Brink has played varsity for four seasons and helped the team earn its 20th win of 2025 as they continue to chase state title dreams.  The Dominion Post
  • Allie Martin, a standout runner from Ohio University and a Preston High alum, overcame low iron levels and a hospital visit when an infusion helped her win the George Dales Invitational and break the indoor mile record—she now aims to finish top eight in MAC cross-country with strong family support.   • Morgantown improved to 6 to 0 with a 28 to 7 win over Wheeling Park as Zaiden Lockett rushed for a season-high 84 yards and two touchdowns while replacing an injured teammate. Coach Sean Biser said the win was significant since both teams had key players missing and Morgantown will travel to face Martinsburg next week — marking their first victory over Wheeling Park since 2017.  MetroNews
