  • City officials announced that citywide trick-or-treating will take place Oct. 31 from 6 to 8 p.m.—residents in Morgantown are set to celebrate Halloween.  WV News
  • On September 21, WVU Hospitality Group won the Most Creative Dish and Best Savory Dish awards at the Taste of Morgantown event held at Mylan Park. The chefs served a roasted venison loin bisteka with ramp chimichurri sauce and local ingredients — a dish that earned these top honors.  West Virginia University

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Five WVU students and alumni have been named Fulbright Scholarship recipients — they will teach English or conduct research abroad over the next year.  WV News
  • WVU’s Personal Rapid Transit system celebrates 50 years of service, carrying over 1,521,638 rides each year since 1975. Director Jeremy Evans said maintenance improvements plus station upgrades funded by the 2024 transportation bill are under way with work planned to finish in the next five years.  The Daily Athenaeum
  • WVU Dining Services offers several meal plans for students, faculty and staff to purchase meals in campus halls—director Clayton Cappellanti said many students mistakenly use an exchange meal at vendors instead of dining dollars, while campus dietitians advise building colorful plates with balanced food choices and the new BeWell program labels healthier meals.   • Trinity volleyball showed improvement in Wednesday's tri-match as coach Alycia Perrine said the young Warriors fought back after losing the first match to Madonna—then they swept Notre Dame and rallied to beat the Fighting Irish with scores of 25—16 and 25—13.   • The West Virginia University Department of Intercollegiate Athletics and Gold and Blue Enterprises announced a 10-year partnership with Hope Gas that will rename the WVU Coliseum to Hope Coliseum, the first renaming in its 55-year history—bringing new revenue and securing the arena’s role as a multi-purpose venue for sports and events.  West Virginia University
  • West Virginia women’s basketball began preseason practice Monday with an 11-player roster—five returnees and six newcomers—after star guard JJ Quinerly moved to the WNBA. Coach Mark Kellogg said the team will use practice sessions to define roles ahead of the November 3 opener against Purdue Fort Wayne.  MetroNews
  • West Virginia quarterback Nicco Marchiol is ruled out for Saturday’s home game against Utah due to a foot injury—Mountaineers will use a different starter as other players are listed as questionable for the 3:30 p.m. matchup.  MetroNews
