BUSINESS NEWS

  • WVU senior Logan Cuvo won $40,000 at the national CoCreate pitch competition for his hockey tape company Best Dam Tape—he will use the prize money to expand his business into new sports markets and build ties with teams.  The Daily Athenaeum

CRIME NEWS

  • WVU released its Clery Act Report showing that burglaries rose from 10 to 25, campus domestic violence increased from 24 to 32, and stalking went from 24 to 42, while officials said the 2025 report will include hazing data—under the new Stop Campus Hazing Act.  WDTV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The West Virginia University Police Department released its annual Clery Act report that showed burglaries rising from 10 to 25, domestic violence increasing from 24 to 32, and stalking climbing from 24 to 42 in 2024—future reports will include hazing as a reportable crime under new guidelines.  West Virginia University
  • WVU has been named one of six finalists for the 13th annual APLU Innovation and Economic Prosperity awards—recognizing advances in education, community development and technology-based economic growth. HEALTH NEWS

  • The Monongalia County Health Department celebrates 50 years at its Van Voorhis Road building and is now looking for a modern facility near the WVU medical campus to meet growing public health needs—officials said the new space will update old systems and better accommodate an expanding team.  WDTV
  • Monongalia County Quick Response Team volunteers will give free naloxone and train residents on using the nasal spray at the Health Sciences Center Pylons, Student Rec Center, and Mountainlair from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sept. 25 — they will also provide fentanyl test strips as part of a nationwide effort to reduce overdoses.  West Virginia University
  • A research study seeks adults aged 18 to 65 with high blood pressure who are not involved in an exercise or yoga program to join a trial examining yoga's effect on heart health. Participants will be randomly assigned to either a remote 12 week vinyasa yoga program—three 60 minute sessions each week—or continue their usual routine while completing assessments over about 4.5 months and earning up to $150 in Amazon gift cards.  West Virginia University
  • Meadowbrook Mall, in partnership with Wellpoint West Virginia, will host a free Flu vaccine and lead screening clinic at Center Court in Bridgeport on September 26th from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.—health experts from local departments will provide vaccines, screenings, and a $25 mall gift card for eligible shoppers.  WDTV

  • Coach Rich Rodriguez said WVU faces 11 offensive players on the injury list—ranging from running backs Tye Edwards and Cyncir Bowers to quarterback Nicco Marchiol—as he prepares the team for upcoming games.
