- ➤ The United Mine Workers of America announced two new five-year contracts for over 2,000 workers in West Virginia, Ohio, and Pennsylvania — including those at American Consolidated Natural Resources in Monongah and Fairview, which improve wages while keeping current health care benefits. WDTV
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The Research Office invites faculty and research administrators to attend 'Dialogues and Discoveries'—an in-person session to discuss shifts in research administration at WVU—scheduled for Sept. 24 in the Agricultural Sciences Building, Room 4004 and for Sept. 25 at Mountainlair, Greenbrier Room; a Zoom option is available for parts not offered in person. - ➤ Gary Gini, a respected professor in the School of Music, died on Aug 24 while studying for his Regents degree and running the Instrument Lab to help students repair instruments—he is remembered for his kindness and passion for learning. - ➤ WVU will end its contract with PNC Bank on Dec. 31 and will welcome a new partner next year—PNC Mountainlair will close on Dec. 5 and merge with the Suncrest Towne Centre location, while students and staff will continue to use available banking services until further updates. - ➤ Gov. Patrick Morrisey is asking West Virginians for input on the Rural Health Transformation Program + a plan to secure $100 million a year for five years to boost rural hospital services. - ➤ On September 12th, 2025, the WVU Board of Governors approved a $4.25M donation for Jackson Lodge at WVU Jackson’s Mill (the funds will be used to complete planned renovations). WV News
- ➤ Matt Harvey, longtime chairman of the West Virginia First Foundation, resigned today after being named federal prosecutor for northern West Virginia—Raleigh County commissioner Greg Duckworth has been named acting chairman as his Senate approval is pending. MetroNews
