ECONOMY NEWS

  • The Public Service Commission held a hearing and set deadlines to finish Hope Gas's rate-hike negotiations for its Pipeline Replacement and Expansion Program—initial briefs are due Sept.22, responses Sept.30 and negotiations ending by Oct.6. Hope Gas filed an updated Purchased Gas Application on Sept.11 for rate changes to take effect Nov.1.  The Dominion Post

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Today, West Virginia University launched a multi-year initiative to improve employee culture with support from President Benson and input from focus groups; college and unit leaders will meet with staff by Oct. 31 to form Culture Action Teams—setting clear plans for change.  West Virginia University
  • Nick Kratsas, digital media manager for Student Media, was honored with the College Media Association Distinguished Advisor Award today for his exceptional service and positive impact on students—he said that being nominated by his students made the honor even more special.  West Virginia University
  • WVU’s Information Technology Services recommends that Mac users postpone installing macOS Tahoe on personal devices while testing continues—students and employees will be notified when it is safe to update and should contact the ITS Service Desk at 304-293-4444 if issues occur.  West Virginia University
  • West Virginia University School of Nursing secured three of the top five best rankings in the state for 2026 — earning the No. 1 spot from RegisteredNursing.org and showcasing its leadership in nursing education.  WV News

  • West Virginia State Parks announced Monday the opening of five stargazing cabins at Coopers Rock State Forest to give visitors a new way to experience the night sky—adding a fresh outdoor option to the park.  WV News

HEALTH NEWS

  • A recent report by the Center for Healthcare Quality & Payment Reform found that 13 rural hospitals in West Virginia are at risk of closure and five are in immediate danger in the next two to three years due to low insurance payments and changing Medicaid rules—state leaders are meeting with Gov. Morrisey to explore solutions for protecting local health care.  The Dominion Post
  • WVU Medicine released its Health Report yesterday that shared updated numbers on overdose deaths — the report shows rising trends and may guide efforts by local health officials.  WDTV

SPORTS NEWS

  • WVU Football will face Utah in a 1965 throwback game that will begin at 3:30 p.m. ET on Saturday, Sept 27 at Milan Puskar Stadium — FOX National will broadcast the contest.  WV News
  • West Virginia volleyball coaches released their Week 1 poll results today showing Charleston Catholic in the lead for Class AA with 59 points, and Morgantown achieving 59 points in the Class AAAA rankings—regional coaches cast votes across four classes. The poll reflects competitive standings among local high schools with vote counts included in the results.  MetroNews
  • In the final minutes, WVU quarterback Nicco Marchiol threw a 34-yard pass to tight end Grayson Barnes that pushed the Mountaineers into Pitt territory, and with 11 seconds left he found Barnes again to tie the game before winning 31-24 in overtime. Barnes finished with five catches for 58 yards while the offense spread the ball around—each receiver adding key plays in the win.  The Dominion Post
