COMMUNITY NEWS

  • West Virginia University started its fall semester on Aug. 20 and brought more traffic and excitement to Morgantown as residents and business owners noted changes in daily routines. Locals reported extra noise and crowded streets—law enforcement said they will enforce ordinances and launch programs to help students and residents interact better.  The Daily Athenaeum

  • A man wanted on felony charges in Ohio was arrested Sunday evening in Chester after leading a multi-agency police chase.  WV News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Seventy-one percent of West Virginia respondents in the MetroNews poll supported a school vaccination requirement for children in grades K-12, with 74% of parents also in favor. Gov. Morrisey said he would work to align the current law with religious exemption rights—an effort that reflects ongoing debate in the state.  MetroNews
  • President Michael T. Benson of WVU updated faculty and staff on campus activities and future events. He said he will speak at the Faculty Senate meeting at 3:15 p.m. Monday at the College of Law, Fitzsimmons Event Hall and at the State of the University address on Oct. 13—he also noted the opening of the new Pride Practice Facility that showed strong Mountaineers support— and invited feedback on plans for the University’s future.  West Virginia University
  • WVU Extension Agriculture & Natural Resources hosted its third Agritourism Bus Tour that began on Sept. 2 from Morgantown and will finish on Sept. 4 after 12 stops—including pick-ups in Flatwoods and Beckley—and visits to farms in Tennessee, Virginia and North Carolina to show new ways for small farms to earn extra income. The tour is part of the WV Agritourism Initiative which aims to educate farmers and the public about diverse agritourism opportunities.  The Daily Athenaeum

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Environmental Health and Safety team has moved its Employee Injury/Incident Report form online to streamline workplace safety and speed up response times. Employees must now submit their reports within 24 hours using a phone or computer—this new system replaces the older PDF and email process.  West Virginia University
