Good morning, Morgantown. Here's your local news at a glance for Sunday, the 24th of August.

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Morgantown policy board members will soon review a plan based on a $500,000 study—this plan suggests closing University Avenue at Grumbein’s Island to ease traffic by rerouting cars to Beechurst Avenue and improve safety near WVU and West Virginia Junior College. Local officials and WVU will hold more talks as the idea is considered in the long-range Metropolitan Transportation Plan.  The Dominion Post

SPORTS NEWS

  • WVU reached its full revenue-sharing goal by raising $20.5 million after the NCAA settlement allowed direct athlete payments—AD Wren Baker said the funds mainly supported football and men’s basketball while some Olympic sports scholarships were reduced, and he noted that future initiatives will aim to address those gaps.  The Dominion Post
  • Trinity Christian lost its season-opening soccer game 3-1 to visiting Notre Dame after dominating possession but missing key shots — coach Dan Lohmann said the team tried a new tactic by moving Austin Porta to the left to create more chances. The Warriors will travel to face Steubenville Catholic on Tuesday — the team will rest tomorrow and regroup on Monday.  The Dominion Post
