CRIME NEWS

  • The Better Business Bureau warns West Virginia residents about a fast-growing employment scam — where individuals pose as Pearl Talent representatives to trick job seekers into paying bogus fees.  WV News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Members of Mountaineers Indivisible Citizen Action gathered at the intersection of Monongahela Boulevard and Boyers Avenue at noon Thursday near the Star City Bridge to protest federal pressure on local police to work with ICE+ they urged officers to show badges and names, respect due process, and avoid using taxpayer funds for immigration enforcement.  The Dominion Post
  • Today, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services sent a stern letter to West Virginia health departments urging them to honor religious exemptions for childhood vaccinations under the Equal Protection for Religion Act — the memo noted that while families must mail a signed letter with basic student information to request an exemption, local school districts are not recognizing those approved by the Bureau for Public Health. Governor Morrisey had earlier directed the Bureau to process such requests as part of West Virginia’s participation in the Vaccines for Children Program.  MetroNews

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Aquatic Therapy Clinic offers free, personalized aquatic therapy sessions at the Student Rec Center pool for adults and children with mobility, strength, or pain challenges. Sessions last 30 to 60 minutes one to three times a week on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays between noon and 4 p.m.—participants must be Rec Center or SilverSneakers members or buy a day pass.  West Virginia University

SPORTS NEWS

  • The 2025 fall sports season is underway in Morgantown as the girls’ soccer team won 7-1 against Weir—senior forward Ella Miller scored five goals—and the boys’ team beat Buckhannon-Upshur 4-2 with senior Ray Hanif scoring two goals. MHS volleyball won two matches in a tri-match while University will start its season Saturday morning in Winfield.  The Dominion Post
  • At his preseason press conference on Friday, WVU athletic director Wren Baker said he is reviewing scheduling options after the SEC set high quality non-conference requirements, noting future games with Alabama and a potential revival of the Backyard Brawl with Pitt. He added the plan will focus on building a schedule that boosts college playoff chances and supports local game-day revenue—essential for team success and the Morgantown economy.  The Dominion Post
  • WVU Sports Hall of Fame announced its 35th class of inductees, naming six contributors including Chelsea Carrier-Eades, Bill Kirelawich, Pat McAfee, Bill Stewart, Darrell Whitmore and Petra Zublasing—induction ceremonies will take place on Sept. 27 before the West Virginia–Utah football game.  MetroNews
