CULTURE NEWS

  • Morgantown magazine examined the history of the PRT—set to mark its 50th anniversary later this year—to show its evolution and impact in our community.  West Virginia University

EDUCATION NEWS

  • WVU’s Visitors Center in One Waterfront Place welcomes prospective students and families to begin campus visits as they explore campus programs + meet key staff; the center offers tours Monday through Friday plus on select Saturdays and provides one-on-one enrollment support amid record fall visitor numbers.  West Virginia University
  • Thirteen future WVU doctoral students will work with K-12 schools and local companies on energy research funded by a $2 million NSF grant. Led by professor Edward Brzostek, the fellowship offers a tuition waiver, stipend and cost-of-education allowance — a program designed to prepare students for state careers — which is expected to boost West Virginia’s economic development.  West Virginia University
  • OLLI at WVU is hosting a fall meet-and-greet to connect lifelong learners with instructors and register for classes at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday (Aug. 26) at the Mountaineer Mall, with light refreshments provided.  West Virginia University

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • New Trail Brewing Co. announced a partnership with the West Virginia State Parks Foundation+ it pledged to donate a portion of proceeds from its Trail Marker West Coast IPA sales in West Virginia to support park maintenance and improvements. The initiative aims to protect the state’s public lands and ensure better conservation of local parks.  WDTV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The West Virginia Division of Highways announced that starting at 6 a.m. Tuesday, the slow lanes on I-79 will close from mile marker 155.5 just past the Star City exit to mile marker 160.5 near the Pennsylvania state line until 6 a.m. Wednesday. The fast lanes will then close from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday for road repairs that may be delayed by bad weather — officials warned that project schedules could change.  WDTV
  • Gov. Morrisey is proposing four changes to PEIA—ending coverage for spouses with their own insurance, changing the cost split for new workers from eighty-twenty to seventy-five-twenty-five, forming a fraud unit and pushing tougher deals with pharmacy benefit managers. Lawmakers remain skeptical and worry that some proposals may be managed solely by the executive branch and lead to public backlash.  MetroNews
