CULTURE NEWS

  • Artist Joel Dugan and community volunteers painted the 6,500-square-foot mural 'The Wild Thread of High Street' on the back of South High Station on August 9 to highlight local wildlife near Deckers Creek. He led work with local groups+students and the project raised about $22,000 through grants+ to support long-term habitat improvements.  Morgantown Magazine

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Elior Collegiate Dining is teaming with Fabio Viviani Hospitality to upgrade food choices and service at WVU after replacing Sodexo in July—fresh ingredients are now prepared in-house and dining halls will offer authentic meal stations with themed events. The change aims to boost the student dining experience with friendly service and daily updates.  The Daily Athenaeum
  • Four WVU doctoral students have been named to the Ruby Scholars Graduate Fellows program—receiving financial support to continue their research, and they will use the funds to expand their studies at the university.  WV News
  • Today as classes begin, the Office of the Provost and campus partners are providing faculty with the tools, resources, and opportunities needed to boost teaching, research, and service—helping the University start the new academic year strong.  West Virginia University
  • WVU President Michael Benson said he plans to boost enrollment and retention after touring 18 counties in West Virginia and noting strong local support for the university. He will work with new VP Fabrizio D’Aloisio to open more spots for qualified West Virginia students + use the land-grant mission to strengthen academic traditions.  The Daily Athenaeum

  • U.S. District Judge John Preston Bailey granted a temporary restraining order and preliminary injunction against the NCAA that allows four WVU football players—Jimmori Robinson, Tye Edwards, Justin Harrington, and Jeffrey Weimer—to be eligible for the 2025 season. The decision follows a lawsuit alleging antitrust violations and breach of contract after the players had been previously denied waivers.  MetroNews
  • WVU men’s soccer coach Dan Stratford is choosing a starting goalkeeper from three strong options as he prepares the team for a deep 2025 roster.
