  • Mountaineer mascots Cade Kincaid and Rachel Morgan visited 29 Energy Express sites across West Virginia that delivered free books, meals, and supplies to children in need during a six-week summer program. They said the visits opened their eyes to the importance of service — showing how these efforts benefit both children and volunteers while highlighting WVU Extension's mission.  West Virginia University

  • Roots Natural Kitchen opened its doors at 469 High St this week as part of the Morgantown ReStored initiative to give students healthy meals made with fresh, in-house ingredients + the restaurant offers 10 signature bowls, a build-your-own option, and both dine-in and delivery services. It held a soft opening on Aug. 15 and will hold its grand opening on Aug. 22 while operating Monday through Friday from 10:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. and weekends from 11:00 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.  The Daily Athenaeum

  • Mountaineer Country across Monongalia, Preston and Taylor counties has been named one of the nation’s top 20 spots to view fall foliage — USA Today highlighted its picturesque mountain views and scenic drives, and readers can vote once a day online through Sept 9. ECONOMY NEWS

  • The business community in West Virginia has raised alarm as the labor force participation rate, which peaked at 55 percent after a steep drop during the COVID-19 pandemic, has steadily fallen.  WV News
  • A July jobs report showed that 7,600 workers left the state’s workforce and 4,400 jobs were cut—mining fell from 21,300 to 20,700, manufacturing dipped from 45,600 to 45,400, hospitality dropped from 71,400 to 68,700, and retail declined from 78,400 to 77,800. The West Virginia Chamber of Commerce called the figures troubling—urging a unified plan to reverse the trend.  WDTV

  • WVU coach Rich Rodriguez discussed a two-quarterback system on August 17 and said he will wait until game day to announce the starting quarterback, with Marchiol likely to lead while Henderson is set for run packages.   • Trinity Christian High School announced that first-year head coach Alycia Perrine—who played varsity volleyball at Southern Garrett—has taken over the volleyball team as it prepares for season openers beginning August 28 in a tri-match and continuing with games on September 2 and 4.
