CULTURE NEWS

  • WVU Arts and Entertainment announced that FallFest is set for Monday night at the Rec Center Fields on the Evansdale campus and will feature local talent including Sierra Ferrell—an award-winning singer—and performances by Seneca and DJ Max Clark. Students will use their WVU IDs to enter via three gates opening at 6:30 p.m.—buses will run continuously between Mountainlair and Braxton Tower portico.  MetroNews

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Former U.S. Senator Joe Manchin will launch his memoir book tour on Sept.12 at 5:30 p.m. in Morgantown at Milan Puskar Stadium's Diversified Energy Terrace—retired MetroNews host Hoppy Kercheval will moderate the discussion as the memoir is set to release on Sept.16.  MetroNews
  • A new report shows that Morgantown received only $90,856 in opioid settlement funds—far less than Charleston’s $4.2 million and other cities that received much higher amounts. City officials said Morgantown did not opt out of the settlements and that allocation percentages were set by county agreements.  The Dominion Post
  • UMWA President Cecil Roberts warned miners face increased health risks after a ruling from a U.S. Court of Appeals delayed the Silica Rule until October. The postponed rule was meant to lower miners' exposure to crystalline silica and prevent life-threatening lung diseases.  WDTV

SPORTS NEWS

  • WVU men’s basketball finalized its roster with forward Evans Barning from Archbishop Carroll; the 6-foot-8 prospect will reclassify from the 2026 cycle and enroll this fall. Head coach Ross Hodge said Barning fills the last slot on the team’s 15-player roster for the 2025-26 season — his summer performance at Peach Jam showed his scoring and rebounding skills.  The Dominion Post
  • Walter Young Bear — who borrowed funds to cover his $69,266 tuition — transferred from Tulsa to WVU and now aims to honor his Native American heritage and family this season. He is adjusting to coach Rich Rodriguez's high-tempo system — working to secure a starting role and lead the team to its first winning record this season.  The Dominion Post
  • On Saturday, the Mountaineers ran an 80-play scrimmage as move-in weekend brought many students into town while classes start on Wednesday to end the traditional part of fall camp—Coach Rodriguez said he will hold meetings this week to finalize roster roles and prepare for the season opener against Robert Morris. The team will return to practice on Monday as the evaluation of young players and adjustments for the scout team continue.  MetroNews
