- ➤ Last month, 21 teams of coal miners gathered at Mylan Park for a rescue drill that simulated underground hazards and tested emergency response procedures. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ WVU will update its operating hours for academic buildings on the Downtown and Evansdale campuses for fall. Exterior doors will be locked during off-hours — however, those with keys or card access will still be able to enter and exit, and special meetings will require prior approval. - ➤ Celebrity chef Fabio Viviani will visit campus on Aug. 13–14 as part of a partnership with WVU Hospitality Group to discuss campus dining improvements and showcase fresh fall flavors. - ➤ School nutritionists have changed menus after a new law banned artificial dyes from school meals as of Aug. 1—affecting 240,000 students in 630 schools—by using approved substitutions for favorites until food manufacturers update their products by January 2027. West Virginia Public Broadcasting

- ➤ The Morgantown High girls' soccer team, state champions in 2022 & 2023, is preparing for the 2025 season with returning star Ella Miller and fresh JV talent following key losses, as they plan a road opener on August 20 at 6:00 p.m. and a home opener on August 26 at 8:00 p.m. The Dominion Post
- ➤ High school and middle school athletes in Morgantown can now earn money from NIL deals after the state Board of Education and SSAC approved the policy on Aug. 8. The rules restrict using school uniforms or logos for endorsements and block school staff from involvement—meant to keep athletes eligible for sports. The Dominion Post
- ➤ The Mountaineer Alumni Association is hosting Hail West Virginia for every home football game this season at the Erickson Alumni Center near the Blue Lot and Milan Puskar Stadium, with tailgate activities starting three hours before kickoff. Fans will enjoy reserved parking and an exclusive pregame reception with curated menus and specialty drinks—members receive a commemorative gift, tax benefits and an annual Alumni Association membership.
