EDUCATION NEWS

  • WVU has launched an anonymous EthicsLine tool that lets workers report fraud, theft and other misconduct. The tool offers a browser-friendly form, mobile-friendly service and a phone option using 866-413-1955 to let staff share concerns.  West Virginia University
  • West Virginia University’s STEAM Technical Assistance Center has worked with roughly 60,000 middle and high school students in 650 classrooms since it started in 2022. The program enters its fourth year today and will continue offering technical learning support to local schools.  WV News
  • Jorge Atiles, dean of the Division for Land-Grant Engagement at WVU, was inducted into the Academy of Community Engagement Scholarship—making him the first from WVU and one of only 151 members worldwide. He has led programs like the CommUNITY Partner program—strengthening ties between the university and local communities.  West Virginia University
  • WVU’s medical school ranks 86th out of 160 schools with an average debt of $188,892 for 2024 graduates — below the national average of $212,341. Chancellor Clay Marsh said plans like the MATTER track and combined undergrad-medical programs will help reduce debt and keep more doctors in the state.  The Dominion Post
  • WVU research personnel impressed AAALAC International during a recent site visit by showing high engagement and quality research infrastructure — the team noted only a few minor recommendations in program documentation and safety. The committee will submit a full reaccreditation recommendation to the AAALAC Council in September.  West Virginia University

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • U.S. District Judge Joseph Goodwin ordered Chemours to limit forever chemical discharge from its Washington Works plant in Wood County to meet federal PFAS permit limits in the Ohio River. The order follows a lawsuit by the West Virginia Rivers Coalition that alleged five years of Clean Water Act violations — the ruling may force the firm to change production or halt operations if it does not comply.  West Virginia Public Broadcasting

SPORTS NEWS

  • WVU offensive line coach Jack Bicknell Jr. introduced his hockey-style substitution strategy at a Thursday press conference, saying he will rotate fresh linemen to keep the unit healthy for the Week 1 game against Robert Morris. He noted that seven to eight linemen are ready for the new system—while others work on their basics—to help set the stage for a strong season.  The Dominion Post
