EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Lyon Tower in the Evansdale Residential Complex will reopen this fall to house students after closing in 2021—four floors will serve upperclassmen, transfer and graduate students and two floors will be reserved for first time freshmen. The Daily Athenaeum
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Faculty, staff and students are invited to submit proposals on topics such as environmental reclamation + community development, building rehabilitation and renewable energy for a poster session set for 4:30 p.m. Sept. 10 at Two Waterfront Place; the Brownfields Assistance Center at WVU will host the exhibit and proposals must be in by Aug. 25. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ On Wednesday, the Monongalia County Commission approved a resolution opposing the proposed 105 mile long high voltage power line — a project that would cross our area to supply a data center in Frederick County and force local residents to pay for unwanted costs. Officials from neighboring counties and Delegate David McCormick said they will work to intervene before the state Public Service Commission. MetroNews
- ➤ The City of Morgantown unveiled its 2025 paving list at Tuesday night’s Committee of the Whole meeting, marking its most ambitious road repair plan in nearly a decade—more road upgrades are planned in the coming months. WV News

- ➤ West Virginia schools will soon serve meals without artificial dyes after Governor Patrick Morrisey signed a law banning seven synthetic dyes from school foods. About 240,000 students will see changes in items like red Jell-O fruit cups and Cool Ranch Doritos—foods now made with colors from vegetables, spices and seeds. WDTV
