COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Former First Baptist Church members and Your Community Foundation launched the First Baptist Church of Morgantown Charitable Endowment Fund to keep the church’s outreach work alive after it closed in 2021. The fund gave $9,750 to 11 local organizations last year and is expected to grow—honoring the church’s enduring legacy in the community.  The Dominion Post

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Two people were pulled from Deckers Creek after an SUV crash on Monday night near Pixler Hill Road on Route 7 at 10:30 p.m.—firefighters used ropes to free them while both were taken to Ruby Memorial Hospital and police continued their investigation.  MetroNews

CULTURE NEWS

  • The City of Morgantown was awarded a $35k grant to repair and enhance the historic Easton Roller Mill, with plans that include an accessible ramp and new display cases—adding educational exhibits by the Morgantown History Museum to boost community engagement.  WDTV

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • After nearly 50 years of service, the WVU Center for Excellence in Disabilities has about 60 days remaining before its funding runs out and the center will be eliminated on October 1 if the federal budget is not changed. Last year the center served more than 435,000 people and supported 96 jobs, and its closure would remove over $11 million in additional federal funds.  The Dominion Post
  • Morgantown hosted a weeklong crisis intervention training that brought together law enforcement, social workers and mental health professionals from across the state. The event took place at the Morgantown Police Department’s training center — where participants practiced de-escalation and referral techniques — to help steer individuals in crisis to local service providers.  The Dominion Post

HEALTH NEWS

  • Three local hospitals were named to the U.S. News World Report 2025-2026 Best Hospitals list. Ruby Memorial Hospital — along with United Hospital Center and Vandalia Health Mon Medical Center — earned the highest ratings for several key procedures and conditions.  WDTV

SPORTS NEWS

  • West Virginia University Athletics announced its 2025 promotional schedule for volleyball home matches — season tickets will cost $75 plus fees and be delivered by mobile, while all tickets are general admission. The schedule includes special events on Sept. 4, Sept. 6, Oct. 1, Oct. 8, Oct. 24, Oct. 30, Nov. 1, Nov. 14, Nov. 19, and Nov. 21 featuring themed giveaways and offers.  West Virginia University
  • Best Virginia beat Shell Shock 74–61 on Monday night at Charleston Coliseum as WVU alumni James Reese led his team into the TBT semifinals. The team will host Eberlein Drive at 6 p.m. Thursday on FS1 as it chases the $1 million prize.  The Dominion Post
