- ➤ Latch Boutique is hosting its first back-to-school clothing drive for high school girls in need. The event is set for Aug. 3 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and the store—located at 3345 University Ave—is accepting gently used women's clothing, shoes, accessories, school supplies and dresses for homecoming and prom until Aug. 1 with local volunteers on hand for styling help. - ➤ WVU senior Sydney Lyons is gaining hands-on training this summer at J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital through the Excel Student Employment Program—she is building critical care skills and confidence for a future in the ICU and as an ECMO specialist. West Virginia University
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The U.S. Department of Transportation awarded Morgantown Municipal Airport $9.5 million to fund Phases 5 and 6 of its runway extension project, which will add 1,001 feet to accommodate more aircraft—City Council considered accepting the grant on July 22nd. WDTV
- ➤ Today the League of Women Voters of West Virginia released its 2025 Legislative Scorecard that lists 2,460 introduced bills, 249 passed measures, 233 signed laws and 29 line-item vetoes while splitting the report into four categories covering issues like voter rights and environmental protection. Co-president Judy Ball said the scorecard calls out House Bill 3016, which requires a photo ID to vote and may lower turnout — a step the group sees as a threat to democracy. MetroNews
