CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Police arrested a 22-year-old man after he fired his handgun into a crowded area on High Street during an argument in downtown Morgantown — authorities also detained a 25-year-old woman and charged them with wanton endangerment and felony conspiracy. WDTV
- ➤ Police arrested a woman after she attacked a man with a machete on Wiley Street in Morgantown on Friday, leaving him with two deep gashes on his lower legs while bystanders applied towels to help stop the bleeding. WDTV
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Faculty and staff are invited to join Welcome Week to welcome students and launch the academic year starting Aug. 13. Key events include student gatherings at the Mountainlair on Aug. 16 and at Milan Puskar Stadium on Aug. 17 — additional details include special transit hours and information tents. - ➤ Researchers introduced the West Virginia Flood Resiliency Framework after a 1,000-year flood event struck the community - Aaron Maxwell said it will serve as a model for safety measures in other states. West Virginia University
- ➤ The Morgantown Utility Board closed part of North High Street from Prospect Street to Maiden Lane on July 21 for maintenance work. Drivers were asked to avoid the area and follow detour routes via University Avenue (where signs are placed to direct traffic). West Virginia University
- ➤ The West Virginia Department of Human Services announced that applications for the Emergency Low Income Energy Assistance Program, or E-LIEAP, will open Monday, July 28 + the program will help low income residents cover rising energy costs. WV News
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Eight teams qualified for the American Legion State Baseball Tournament at Dale Miller Field in Morgantown after area play ended last week. The double-elimination tournament begins Thursday, July 24 + the championship round is set for Monday, July 28 and the state champion will advance to the Mid-Atlantic Regional Tournament in Ridge Md starting August 6.
