EDUCATION NEWS

  • WVU is hosting SpaceTrek for young women in STEM this week to provide hands-on aerospace engineering and satellite technology experience. Camp instructors hope the girls gain confidence to pursue STEM careers and build small satellites during the camp + the program received $3.98 million from the Appalachian Regional Commission.  WDTV
  • Amanda Craddock is visiting campus today for meetings — a public forum runs from 1:15-2:30 p.m. in Reynolds Hall Room 2001 or on Zoom as part of the national search for a new vice president for Enrollment Management. Additional candidate visits are scheduled for July 17, 21 and 22 and the search committee invites feedback from the campus community.  West Virginia University
  • Michael T. Benson is now serving as WVU’s 27th president and began his role by walking around Morgantown before his official start on July 15. He will travel across West Virginia to meet local residents—emphasizing that the university belongs to everyone—while leading a hands-on approach to drive academic and community initiatives.  WVU Today

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • City and county leaders met recently to discuss their working relationship and review shared projects such as the East End Village development, stream restoration, sewer replacement and road improvements. They stressed the need for open communication and joint resource use — key steps to maximize taxpayer dollars amid funding cuts.  The Dominion Post

  • West Virginia University women’s soccer unveiled its 2025 promotional slate for home matches with season tickets available for $75 via mobile delivery and an exclusive scarf bundle for $90 — the schedule includes events such as a back-to-school drive on August 14th, a glow event on August 21st, and other themed match days to engage local fans.  West Virginia University
