  • Margaret Roberts and volunteers from the 1st Ward Neighborhood Association began restoring markers at Oak Grove Cemetery to save important local history. The group, which relies on donations and shared materials, plans to expand its work to slow decay (established in 1865) and preserve inscriptions.  The Dominion Post

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • One person was injured and sent to Ruby Memorial Hospital after a fireworks accident at Big Bear Lake Friday night—officials confirmed the incident.  WDTV
  • Morgantown firefighters responded to a structure fire at a three-story, 13-unit apartment building on Dille Street Saturday morning at 4:52 AM and safely evacuated all occupants including three cats and one dog, though one resident was sent to Ruby Memorial Hospital for smoke inhalation as the fire was controlled by 6:26 AM and the building suffered significant damage.  WDTV

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Rainfall totals in Morgantown in June set a top-five record as 8.65 inches fell, with the year-to-date total reaching nearly 31 inches by July 2—records date back to 1873, according to the National Weather Service. The forecast calls for a few showers today before near-daily rains return after the Fourth of July holiday—local weather conditions are expected to remain wet.  MetroNews
