EDUCATION NEWS

  • WVU President Gordon Gee—who led the university for 44 years—packed up his office Tuesday in late June as he retired, and Michael Benson will take office on July 15. Gee said he plans to remain involved in local economic development after leaving his post.  The Dominion Post
  • On Friday, University High received a $25,000 check from state senators Mike Oliverio and Charles Clements for its planned on-campus baseball complex — the funding, from an economic development assistance grant, will help cover part of the nearly $4.85 million project and close a $300,000 gap needed to earn a $2 million match from the county board.  MetroNews
  • WVU is refreshing its brand for the 2025-26 academic year by updating its tagline and fonts with an announcement set for Aug. 1 and campus changes including a new mural in the Mountainlair—this initiative began in October 2024 in partnership with marketing agency Ologie—and it will not cost students extra.  The Daily Athenaeum
