CULTURE NEWS

  • The Art Museum of WVU and the Center for Excellence in Disabilities are planning a sensory-friendly art making event for all ages from 4-6 p.m. on July 17 at the Art Museum — visitors can also view the new Evolving Visions exhibit and join a gallery scavenger hunt.  West Virginia University

EDUCATION NEWS

  • WVU alum Victor Dean and his wife Myra Dean donated $175K to boost engineering education and sports at WVU—$75K creates a namesake scholarship in the Statler College matched by $50K from J.M. Huber Corporation while $50K aids football and men’s basketball programs. This donation supports future chemical and biomedical engineers and strengthens the Mountaineer athletic programs.  West Virginia University
  • The West Virginia Department of Education and the U.S. Department of Agriculture partnered with local organizations to plan 400 summer feeding sites for children across the state — the USDA grant funds the Summer Food Service Program while organizations that applied in spring prepare to host sites offering nutritious meals during summer break.  WDTV

SPORTS NEWS

  • Herd That and Best Virginia will begin play in TBT on Friday, July 18 at the Charleston Coliseum — Herd That will tip off at 6:00 p.m. against Sikh Warriors and Best Virginia will start at 8:00 p.m. against DuBois Dream. If both teams win their opening games, they will face each other in a round-of-32 matchup on Sunday, July 20 at 5:00 p.m. on FS1.  MetroNews
