- ➤ The Mentoring and Oversight for Developing Independence with Foster Youth program is asking for donations to help students affected by the recent flooding in Fairmont and Morgantown. Donations will be accepted today from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the WVU Center for Excellence in Disabilities at 959 Hartman Run Road (enter through the third floor entrance) for items such as new clothing, personal hygiene products, school supplies, nonperishable food, or financial contributions (donate by marking 'MODIFY Student Support'). EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The Engage WVU Giving Circle announced it awarded $50,000 in grants to 12 WVU projects (including initiatives in health, STEM, education, and cultural enrichment) that will benefit students and the community. The grants include program awards up to $5,000 and student project awards up to $2,500 (covering one-to-three-year and one-year cycles) to boost academic opportunities. West Virginia University
- ➤ WVU School of Nursing’s Doctor of Nursing Practice Nurse Anesthetist program received the highest accreditation available for 10 years—this award shows the program meets top quality standards and will help students in their studies. WV News
- ➤ West Virginia University announced a 3% tuition increase for undergraduates and a $125 Mountaineer Athletics Advantage Fee for Morgantown students starting next school year. Students residing in West Virginia will pay $325 more and students from outside the state will pay $912 more — revenue from ticket sales and conference earnings will help pay student-athletes following the House vs NCAA settlement. - ➤ WVU student Isabella Tuzzio tested fish from central Appalachian streams and found microplastics in every sample—her study is the first to reveal widespread pollution in the region. WV News
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Weston Smith, a senior with Hurricane, helped lead his team to a 28-7 record and a state championship while posting a 10-0 record with a 1.17 ERA and signing with West Virginia University—he was named captain of the all-state first-team by the West Virginia Sports Writers Association, and Preston’s Bryson McNew was honored as catcher. - ➤ WVU Athletics announced today the launch of Gold & Blue Enterprises to help student athletes get more endorsement deals and create new revenue streams.
