COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Crews in Morgantown answered over two dozen calls on Sunday after heavy Father's Day rains led to flooding and other issues in the area. The downpour brought 2.21 inches of rain at the water treatment plant on Don Knotts Boulevard and caused basement flooding in Westover as well as a lift station shutdown in Granville—officials confirmed limited damage in Morgantown.  The Dominion Post

EDUCATION NEWS

  • West Virginia University released its Spring 2025 Dean’s and President’s lists along with its full graduate list after Commencement ceremonies held at the Coliseum from May 16 to 18—4,137 students made the Dean’s list, 3,129 earned 4.0 GPAs, and 7,266 were honored overall.  WVU Today
  • The WVU Alumni Association is accepting nominations for the 2025 Homecoming and Alumni Service Awards for Mountaineers who show excellence, leadership, and service to WVU and their communities. Honorees will be recognized during the Homecoming Parade (Oct. 24) and at halftime of the WVU vs. TCU football game (Oct. 25), and nominations must be submitted by July 11.  West Virginia University

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • WVU researchers have developed a flood resiliency framework that offers analysis and visualization tools to help communities plan and recover from floods. The toolkit was created with the West Virginia GIS Technical Center and funded by the NSF Civic Innovation Challenge—providing leaders with improved flood risk data and aiding both short-term response and long-term recovery.  WVU Today
  • Lake Lynn Generation submitted its responses to the FERC about public comments on lowering Cheat Lake during last summer’s drought. The company said it lowered the lake to maintain dissolved oxygen for aquatic life— and it will develop an Operations Plan to balance reservoir levels with downstream flows and environmental needs.  The Dominion Post

HEALTH NEWS

  • The WVU Center for Excellence in Disabilities launched a new online course titled Patient Care for Patients with Disabilities in Rural Primary Care to help providers assess needs and create care plans in rural areas. The free course offers five hours of interactive content—providing certification CE credits and community service hours for students and medical residents.  West Virginia University

SPORTS NEWS

  • West Virginia football added four new recruits for the 2026 class on Sunday—offensive linemen Camden Goforth and Justyn Lyles, wide receiver Robert Smith and linebacker/safety Aaron Edwards committed after visiting campus. Coach Rich Rodriguez now has 17 prospects to strengthen his team's plans as all four players made their decisions following official visits.  The Dominion Post
