COMMUNITY NEWS

  • On Saturday, Morgantown hosted a protest where people held signs to support No Kings Day and to oppose government overreach—by afternoon the rail-trail hosted a pride block party with drag shows, music, and local vendors. Organizers said both events united the town to defend democratic rights and celebrate community spirit.  The Dominion Post

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Flooding on Sunday afternoon led to multiple water rescues across Marion County including at Fairmont Village Apartments where a rear wall collapsed—Fairmont remained under a flash flood emergency until 7:15 p.m. and flood warnings covered parts of Marion, Monongalia, and Preston counties until 10:30 p.m.  WDTV
  • Flash flooding swept northern West Virginia Saturday night, leaving at least five dead and four missing while damaging roads, bridges, and homes in the Wheeling area—Gov. Morrisey declared state emergencies and deployed the National Guard as rescue teams worked through damaged infrastructure with more heavy rains forecasted.  West Virginia Public Broadcasting

CULTURE NEWS

  • Local author Homer Hickam and actor/producer Kevin Sizemore are teaming up to adapt Hickam’s book The Coalwood Way into a film called December Sky, with filming planned to start December 2025 or January 2026 in West Virginia for a potential 2027 release. Hickam also said his colon cancer treatment ended with 100% remission — urging trust in medical advice.  MetroNews

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Last week, Governor Morrisey did not grant state employees a day off for Juneteenth and his social media call for law enforcement readiness came amid protests using the slogan No Kings with no violence reported; many suggested a floating holiday option as an alternative. The community also mourned the loss of businessman Doug Skaff and one fatality from Sunday flooding in Marion and Monongalia counties — neighbors quickly united to help each other.  MetroNews

  • Trinity Christian’s Parker Hopkins and Clay Battelle’s Ryan Parker were named to the Class A baseball all-state first team after a tough season with many injuries. Hopkins hit .471 and helped stop runners while Parker led his team with a .607 average—honors that show their skill on the field.  The Dominion Post
