- ➤ Retired Maj. Gen. Jim Hoyer has launched the West Virginia Community Leadership Challenge to fight hunger statewide—calling on residents to lead efforts that support local food programs. The initiative will work with partners to find solutions and reduce food insecurity across the state. WV News
ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ West Virginia Natural Resources Police said a man was attacked by a black bear near Rowlesburg on Thursday evening, leaving him with lacerations and a bite wound and taken by helicopter to Morgantown for surgery at Ruby Memorial Hospital—officials are still investigating if the bear was provoked. - ➤ Redshirt senior pitcher Griffin Kirn was named Third Team All-American by the NCBWA on Wednesday for the Mountaineers—he made 18 appearances with 17 starts and recorded a 3.36 ERA with 103 strikeouts in 99 innings pitched, making him the 11th Mountaineer to earn the honor. - ➤ At the American Cup at Peak Health Aquatic Center, 13-year-old diver ElliReese Niday scored over 40 points higher than the runner-up on her 10-meter dive—she will compete in the finals later today. Her coach John Fox said she loves the sport and is focused on doing her best while aiming for another national win. The Dominion Post
- ➤ The Big 12 Conference announced WVU men's basketball scheduling for the 2025–26 season. WVU will host games against Baylor, BYU, Colorado, Kansas, Texas Tech and Utah — and play away at Arizona, Arizona State, Houston, Iowa State, Oklahoma State and TCU while also having both home and road contests against UCF, Cincinnati and Kansas State; a complete schedule will be released later. - ➤ The Big 12 announced the schedule for the 2025-26 women’s basketball season, and teams will play an 18-game slate where three opponents are faced twice and 12 once. The Mountaineers will host Arizona, Arizona State, Baylor, Texas Tech, Houston and Oklahoma State and hold home—and-away matchups with TCU, UCF and Cincinnati as full dates are set to be released.
