ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Former state delegate Doug Skaff passed away today in a vehicle crash—Congressman Riley Moore and other local leaders shared their sorrow over his long service from his days at WVU to his role in the House of Delegates.  WDTV

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Kathleen Benison, a professor in the Department of Geology and Geography, was elected to lead the Geological Society of America—an international group of over 18,000 geologists—and will begin a four-year term in July.  West Virginia University
  • The West Virginia University Board of Governors will vote this Friday on extending President Dr. E. Gordon Gee's contract—he still plans to retire.  WV News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Gov. Patrick Morrisey said the state will work with local counties on road projects since it lacks funds and will focus on maintenance. Monongalia County officials recalled past public—private deals like the I-79 exit 153 project that repaid state investments and may boost local growth.  The Dominion Post
  • The West Virginia Prosecuting Attorneys Association clarified that women have not faced criminal charges for miscarriages and are not required to report them to law enforcement—this statement comes after a Raleigh County prosecutor warned that women in other states had faced charges in similar situations.  West Virginia Public Broadcasting

HEALTH NEWS

  • WVU researcher Gangqing “Michael” Hu found that artificial intelligence can misdiagnose emergency room cases—his study, reported in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, shows limits in the current technology.  West Virginia University

SPORTS NEWS

  • West Virginia football added five recruits on Monday—defensive back Simaj Hill, offensive lineman Rhett Morris, defensive lineman Cam Mallory, pass rusher Noah Tishendorf (who flipped his commitment), and unranked linebacker Miles Khatri—to boost the 2026 class to 12 players. Eleven of the recruits are rated three-star and most committed after official visits, setting a promising tone for the recruiting summer ahead.  The Dominion Post
