Good morning, Morgantown. Here's your local news at a glance for Monday, the 9th of June.

COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Grace Shelter at Hazel’s House of Hope, run by Catholic Charities West Virginia, has been full since October after its capacity was cut from 28 to 19 beds (forcing about 20 people to be turned away each month as clients come from near and far). Local officials are considering adding 15 permanent beds by moving into the former Hope Hill Sobering Center (which would cost an extra $150,000) to better serve those in need.  MetroNews

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • State Agriculture Commissioner Kent Leonhardt said heavy rains have improved river levels but have not restored all soil moisture and aquifers, and a late frost may reduce fruit and vegetable crops. He added the drought will lower the honey harvest and also impact local beekeepers — while small dairy farms see growth by selling pasteurized milk directly to consumers.  MetroNews

SPORTS NEWS

  • Trinity Christian sophomore Josalyn Phillips was named Class A first team all-state by the West Virginia Sports Writers Association after posting a .427 batting average and eight home runs while helping her team secure a state tournament berth—joining teammate Lexi Lowe among the recognized catchers.  The Dominion Post
  • West Virginia baseball lost both games to LSU in a road super regional that ended its season one round short of the College World Series — the team will prepare to chase Omaha again next season.  The Dominion Post
