- ➤ The American Heart Association hosted the Morgantown Heart Walk at the Mylan Park track complex where visitors enjoyed face painting, a kids zone, and a puppy parade— and the 2025 Miss Morgantown winner appeared to honor both survivors and those lost to heart disease and stroke. The event also introduced a survivor bell for laps that celebrated overcoming heart disease. WDTV
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ NextEra’s MidAtlantic Resiliency Link transmission project is planned to run 105 miles through Monongalia and Preston counties and is expected to be complete by the end of 2031 to improve grid reliability and create hundreds of local jobs. Some residents and officials have raised concerns about potential eminent domain, and on May 29 the Preston County Commission passed a resolution urging regulators to reexamine the route (a May report claims it may cost ratepayers over $440 million over 40 years). - ➤ West Virginia baseball lost 16-9 on Saturday after surrendering 16 runs in the middle innings and recording 11 hits that fueled an offensive surge. The team is on the brink of elimination entering Game 2 today at 6:00 p.m. as head coach Steve Sabins is expected to name senior Jack Kartsonas (6-3 with a 2.94 ERA) as the likely starter. MetroNews
- ➤ Morgantown High School lost 6 to 1 to top seeded Hurricane in the inaugural Class AAAA state baseball championship Saturday night at GoMart Ballpark in Charleston as Hurricane pitcher Weston Smith struck out 13 batters while allowing three hits and one unearned run. - ➤ West Virginia lost Game 1 of the Baton Rouge Super Regional to LSU by a score of 16-9 after a 1-0 lead gave way when LSU scored seven runs quickly. Game 2 starts at 6 p.m. today and the Mountaineers must win to keep their College World Series hopes alive. The Dominion Post
- ➤ At Alex Box Stadium on Saturday, WVU baseball struggled when four pitchers gave up 14 pitches and LSU hit a grand slam, leading to a 16—9 loss. The Mountaineers face a second game at 6 p.m. today where they must avoid more disaster. The Dominion Post
